Truth Dwellings

Watching my breath, relaxing my body and mind and looking within, I find myself transported to a beautiful and serene place, with emerald green grass and the sky a stunning blue. A large field surrounded by a pristine forest. I feel the sun warming my skin, the grass a soft carpet under my feet. Birdsong fills the air as rabbits and squirrels run about. A more perfect place, I could not imagine. I move effortlessly through the landscape. Appreciating the beauty around me, I sense the presence of another. I turn to look in the direction and see him coming towards me, arms outstretched, welcoming me. He looks familiar; kind of like all those pictures of Jesus I have seen growing up, but different; real. As he approaches me, I feel an overwhelming comfort flowing through me, a feeling of peace and love. “Welcome home.” He proclaims. “Welcome to the Kingdom of Heaven.”

“In my Father’s house, there are many rooms…” – John 14:2

“This is Heaven?” I ask.

“This is a small piece of Heaven, a room you could say, your room. In this place you are safe, you are powerful and you are immortal. Look around and enjoy it, you can come here any time you like. You can ask me any questions you have and I will answer you truthfully. I am your intercessor, your counselor, your higher self; some call me the Holy Spirit or the Atman or your Buddha-nature. I am that I am, your connection to the great ‘I am’. I am also you, and you are me, we are one. I am the Truth, the Way, and the Life. Welcome home, son!”

“And I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.” –  psalm 23:6

“All living beings alike possess the Buddha nature.” – Nirvana Sutra

We have all heard that God is inside of our hearts. While Christians say that Christ is in their hearts, the Buddhists say their Buddha-nature is within and the Yogis say Namaste which means the Divinity within me bows to the Divinity within you. Every religion I have studied makes this claim in one form or another. While some who say this mean it as a beautiful metaphor for the love they have for their God, many actually believe that the source of all life somehow has a place inside of their very body. Through the course of meditation, we can look within our hearts and find the truth of this phrase in a very real and experiential way. In fact, we find that Truth actually lives inside of our hearts, and we are houses for Truth to live in, we are all Truth Dwellings.
